How to Change the Transmission Oil on a Honda Scooter

Honda scooters are a viable and sustainable mode of transportation. They are dependable, fuel-efficient and easily stored on the sidewalk or in the corner of a parking lot. For the most part, all you have to do to Honda scooters is fill them up with gas every now and then and make sure your tires are pumped up. However, sometimes routine maintenance will be vital for proper functionality on these vehicles. One such maintenance item is that of changing the transmission oil of your scooter's little engine. The transmission is located at the rear of the machine and is relatively hard to change the oil in.

Things You'll Need

  • Transmission oil
  • Small socket wrench set
  • Paper towels
  • Small bucket
  • Allen wrenches
  • Park the scooter in a level area and place the paper towels in the bottom of the bucket. Situate the bucket underneath the transmission, which is located on the left side of the rear wheel.

  • Use the allen wrenches to remove the mounting bolts on the silver aluminum housing covering the transmission. Pull the housing off to access the drain plug on the very bottom rear of the transmission. Remove the drain plug with the socket wrench.

  • Allow the oil (about 200cc) to drain into the bucket and then replace the drain plug.

  • Locate the fill hole on the rear top of transmission and unscrew the fill screw with the allen wrenches.

  • Insert the tip of the transmission oil bottle into the fill hole and squeeze approximately 200cc of oil into the transmission. Replace the fill screw and then remount the transmission housing.
