Changing the front brake caliper on the Nissan Titan requires bleeding the system, as the high-pressure line will need to be removed, introducing air into the brake system. If the caliper is defective or malfunctioning, it should be replaced to improve the way your truck handles and drives as well as for your safety and that of your passengers and other drivers around you on the roadways.
Loosen the lug nuts on the side of the truck where you will be replacing the caliper. Raise the truck with a jack, support the truck under the frame with jack stands and remove the wheel and tire from the truck.
Locate the mounting bolts on the rear of the brake caliper. There are two of them and they are inserted from the rear of the caliper into the mounting bracket. Remove these bolts with a socket and ratchet.
Locate the banjo or union bolt that secures the rubber high-pressure brake line to the caliper. Remove the bolt and set the line up out of the way. A small amount of brake fluid may seep from the line, so position a drain pan or similar container under the hose while it is loose.
Lift the caliper off the rotor and mounting bracket, removing it from the truck. Remove the brake pads from the caliper. If they are overly worn, now would be good time to replace the pads on your Titan.
Move the pads to your new caliper unless you are replacing the pads. If you are replacing the pads, install the new pads in the caliper. Mount the new caliper onto the mounting bracket and tighten the mounting bolts with a socket and ratchet.
Install the banjo or union bolt onto the new caliper. Use a new brass washer between the brake hose and the caliper. Tighten the bolt with a socket and ratchet or a wrench.
Install the wheel back on the truck. Replace the lug nuts and tighten them until they are snug then remove the jack stands and lower the truck to the ground. Tighten the lug nuts with a lug wrench.
