Rattler Alarm Instructions

The Rattler brand of electronic car alarm is manufactured by Directed Electronics. This system includes basic alarm functions, a remote control for arming and disarming, a hidden valet switch and a piercing emergency siren. The Rattler can be connected to the headlights of a vehicle and can flash them during a break-in or to indicate the status of the system. A panic feature also allows users to sound the alarm and flash the lights remotely.

  • Use the remote control to arm the system and lock the doors after the vehicle is parked. Press and hold the remote lock button, marked with the lock icon, for one second. Confirm that the alarm is armed by waiting for the vehicle lights to flash and the alarm to chirp.

  • Disarm the security system before returning to the vehicle and opening any doors. Press and hold the remote unlock button, which is indicated by an unlock symbol, for one second. The alarm chirps and the vehicle lights flash twice to show that it is safe to enter.

  • Bypass the alarm manually if the remote control is lost, or if another person such as a valet needs to access the vehicle while it is armed. Unlock the car doors normally. A light on the dashboard will flash, showing that the alarm is still active. Within fifteen seconds, insert the key and turn the car's ignition to the "on" position. Press the hidden "Valet Program" switch. The location of this switch varies depending on the installation. Once the valet switch is pressed, the light stops flashing and the alarm system deactivates.

  • Silence the alarm chirp used to indicate arming and disarming in areas where this noise causes a distraction. Press the "aux" button on the remote immediately followed by either the arm or disarm button. The arm or disarm command will still be sent, but no noise will be made. Use the "aux" button every time the chirp needs to be silenced, or the system defaults back to its audible mode.

  • Activate the panic feature by pressing and holding the lock button, located on the remote, for one and a half seconds. This triggers the alarm and flashes the vehicle's lights for thirty seconds and can be useful to attract attention in an emergency situation.
