Ford Automotive Speaker Specifications

Ford installs factory sound systems, including speakers, in all its vehicles. As sound equipment has evolved, the speakers have enabled first the radio, then cassette players and now CD and MP3 players to provide the driver and passengers with music.

2011 Premium Speakers

  • In 2011 Ford offers a premium sound system for its vehicles. For example, an option for the Fusion includes a Sony sound system with Dolby surround sound and 390 watts of power. The Fusion has 12 high-quality premium stereo speakers and two subwoofers, which are designed to reproduce very low bass frequencies. The 2011 Ford Explorer has as optional equipment on its Limited model a rear subwoofer along with 12 premium Sony speakers.

Standard Speakers

  • While the 2011 Ford Explorer Limited offers the deluxe speaker system, the other models, the Explorer and Explorer XLT, leave the factory with a standard sound system of six speakers.

Speaker Size

  • Owners of pre-2011 Fords can upgrade the speakers by checking their speaker size and buying new ones. You can check your owner's manual or the "MobileToys" website for your speaker size. For example, by entering the pertinent data it can be ascertained that a 2005 Explorer has front and rear speakers of 6 inches by 8 inches.

Older Ford Vehicles

  • A further search for a 1971 Ford Pinto reveals a front speaker size of 5-1/4 inches and a rear speaker size of 6 inches by 8 inches. Most Ford models and years still on the road have aftermarket speaker upgrades available to boost your music experience.
