How to Fix a Keyless Entry Remote

Keyless entry remotes provide wireless accessibility for a number of your car's features. They can be added to your keychain for extra convenience and security, but can break if they are not handled carefully. You can fix your keyless entry remote by making sure the case is firmly on, the battery is working and the programming sequence is correctly synced to the device and your car.

  • Pop the case of the keyless entry remote open with a knife or a screwdriver blade and locate the battery inside. Replace the battery with a new one and put the case back together.

  • Insert your key into the car's ignition to begin the programming process.

  • Turn the key in the ignition from "Off" to "Run" eight times in 10 seconds and end the eighth cycle in the "Run" position. The "Run" position is usually two clicks to the right of "Off" and one click short of starting the car.

  • Listen for the sound of the locks clicking, then press and hold any button on your remote within 20 seconds afterward. You will also have to keep the key in the ignition during this step.

  • Continue holding the button that you pressed in the last step for up to 30 seconds until the locks click again. This completes the programming sequence. Remove the key from the ignition to end the process.
