Things You'll Need

  • Lubricant spray
  • Scraper
  • Screwdriver set
  • Socket wrench set
  • Torque wrench set
  • Power bit
  • 1/2-inch drill bit
  • Take the spare tire out of its compartment from underneath the rear of your truck and set it aside. The tire will have to be out of the way to reach all of the parts needed for a successful installation.

  • Remove the wax coating from the hitch completely, including all of the attachment holes, with the scraper. Coat the frame and hitch holes with the lubricant spray as well by spraying a thin coat on it evenly.

  • Place the hitch bar onto the truck's bumper. Remove the screws on both sides of hitch bar and make the proper adjustments to have it match the size of the bumper. The screws that will need to be loosened are located on the female end of the hitch bar.

  • Put the 9/16th-inch hex bolts, along with their washers, into each of the frame rail's attachment holes, then tighten them with the appropriate torque wrench. The two attachment holes on the frame rail are responsible for attaching to the main components of the actual hitch.

  • Place the hitch on the back of the truck, positioning it over the hitch bar, then loosely screw the rear attachments in with your hands. You may need help from another person to safely lift the device into place.

  • Secure the hitch by inserting the other 9/16th-inch hex bolts and washers, then tightening them with locknuts from underneath using the torque wrench.

  • Drill a 1/2-inch hole through the bumper bracket to make the it line up with the frame rails' slot that already exists, using the reinforcement bracket as a guide.

  • Insert the 1/2-inch hex bolts, along with their washers, into the holes on the reinforcement brackets. Tighten the flat and lock washers and nuts securely with the appropriate-size torque wrench.
