How to Create Your Own Spare Tire Cover

Tire covers are popular accessories on all types of vehicles. They hang off the back of a truck, van or SUV and provide a bit of extra flair or personality to your car. They are used as practical tools to cover extra tires, but you can also spice a tire cover up by creating your own design to display on the cover.

Things You'll Need

  • Compass
  • Sketching paper
  • Pencil
  • Blank tire cover
  • Indelible oil paints
  • Sketch some designs of how you would like your spare tire cover to look. Determine where in the circle everything will be placed and how it will look once it is on your vehicle.

  • Draw a circle using a compass on a piece of sketching paper and recreate your design within the circle. Use the tire cover to draw the outline of your circle, and you will be able to use the sketch paper later to make your cover. This will represent the circle on your car. Finish your final design on the sketching paper, and use colored pencils or markers to add color.

  • Place your tire cover on a flat surface and recreate your design within the circle on the tire cover. Use your sketch to draw pencil lines on the tire cover to outline your design.

  • Use indelible oil paints to fill in and complete your design. Do your large details first and add the smaller ones afterward.

  • Allow the paint to dry and place the cover on your car.
