How to Add Keyless Entry to Car

Adding keyless entry to your car is an aftermarket addition that will make life easier. Keyless entry gives you the power to unlock your car doors at the push of a button as opposed to fumbling around with your keys. The feature is especially nice when your hands are full or you are caught in the rain. You can add keyless entry in a few steps.

  • Put the key in the ignition and switch the car from "Off" to "On" 8 times in 10 seconds, ending with the car on. When this is done correctly, the car informs you by locking and unlocking the car doors on its own. This also indicates that the car has entered programming mode.

  • Push any button on the keyless entry remote to link the remote with the car. The car is only in programming mode for 20 seconds, during which you must press the button. After the button on the remote has been pushed, the doors will lock and unlock. The car stays in programming mode for another 20 seconds, during which you can program another remote by pressing any button.

  • Turn the key in the ignition to the "Off" position to exit programming mode. This is signified by the doors locking and unlocking one last time.
