How to Install a Bull Bar on a Toyota Tacoma

The Toyota Tacoma is a truck that can either be driven on the street every day, or taken off road for recreational use. One popular modification made among off road enthusiasts is to install a Bull Bar on the front end. These are made of chrome or stainless tubing and help protect the front end from damage that could happen while off roading. If you want to install a Bull Bar on your Tacoma, you can do so in just under an hour.

Things You'll Need

  • 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set
  • Open-end wrench set
  • Bull bar kit with mounting hardware
  • Torque wrench
  • Look underneath the front bumper and find the front bumper mounts. Unbolt the nuts on the bumper support using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, then install the front Bull Bar mounting bracket from the kit using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket and the hardware from the kit.

  • Torque the bolts on the mounting brackets using the torque wrench to 20 foot pounds.

  • Lift the Bull Bar up and slide the ends into the mounting brackets. Use the bolts included in the kit to bolt the Bull Bar to the mounting brackets and then bolt them in place with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket and an open-end wrench.

  • Adjust and level the Bull Bar to the front end as necessary. Torque the bolts on the Bull Bar with the torque wrench to 35 foot pounds.
