How to Remove the Wheel Caps on a Hyundai Genesis

The Hyundai Genesis, a full-size luxury sport sedan, "could easily pass as a Lexus or Mercedes-Benz," according to Edmunds.com. Unlike wheel covers, caps come mostly in one size. Hubcaps can be popped off with a screwdriver, but if you tried to do that to a center cap, you might damage a few clips. You do not have to take the whole wheel off to get to and remove the caps; the method for doing so on the Genesis is similar to that used with most other cars.

Things You'll Need

  • Center cap removal tool
  • Tire iron
  • Car jack
  • Pliers

The Easy Way

  • Look at the center cap and locate two pin holes. Some caps may have these holes covered by a plastic emblem. Hyundai vehicles may have these covered by a hologram emblem. If the cap does not have these holes at all, or if you don't want to remove hologram (and thereby remove the chance to sell them on eBay or elsewhere), skip to Section 2.

  • Insert the tip of the center cap removal tool into one of the pin holes.

  • Pry or lever gently, if you are concerned with keeping the cap for later use. Yanking it out will damage the clips.

  • Repeat this process on the remaining three wheels.

The Hard Way

  • Jack up the car.

  • Remove the lugnuts with a tire iron.

  • Pull the wheel off the Hyundai and look at the back of the wheel.

  • Remove small retention ring on the back of the center cap, and then tap the center cap out with the tire iron.

  • Repeat this process for the remaining center caps.
