How to Remove Door Panels on a 2005 GTO

Pontiac re-introduced the classic GTO nameplate for the 2004 model year. Unfortunately, it was discontinued after the 2006 model year. Owner's praise its power and handling, but critics tended to dislike its styling, especially compared to the original muscle car introduced in 1964. If you want to upgrade your GTO's stock speakers or perform repairs to the door-lock mechanism, remove your door panel to access the equipment.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Small flat-head screwdriver
  • Open the door wide. Locate and remove the four screws along the bottom portion of the door panel with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Set these screws aside in a separate place from the other screws you remove; they are slightly different.

  • Lift the door lock knob on the top part of the door panel. On the rod, you'll find a small cap. Pry the cap off with a small flat-head screwdriver. Remove the Phillips-head screw behind it.

  • Remove the two Phillips-head screws from the rear side of the door panel. One screw is on the outer edge of the door-panel armrest; the other is next to the courtesy light.

  • Remove the Phillips-head screw from the front portion of the panel. This screw is right next to the door-panel air vent.

  • Pry off the plastic cover behind the door handle. Hold the door handle open to better access the cover. Remove the two Phillips-head screws behind the handle.

  • Grasp the front part of the sail panel (side mirror-bolt cover). Pull it toward the rear to unhook it from the door panel.

  • Push the door panel up, and then pull it away. If removing the driver-side door panel, unplug the power-mirror switch from behind.
