How to Put on Dub Floaters

Dub floaters are a type of vehicle wheel rim, manufactured by Dub Custom Wheels, designed to give the appearance that the wheels are not turning. They are similar in construction to "spinners" (wheel rims that continue to spin when the wheel has stopped turning) but are weighted to keep the rim stationary, even while the wheels are in motion. You install dub floaters on your vehicle as you do with other types of rims.

Things You'll Need

  • Car jack
  • Ratchet
  • Socket set
  • Tire iron
  • Tarp
  • Towel
  • Raise the wheel on which you wish to work, using the car jack. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface. Remove the hubcap from the wheel, if necessary.

  • Loosen the lug nuts, using the tire iron or the ratchet and socket set. Remove the lug nuts and set aside. Lift the wheel off of the vehicle's axle and set it flat on a tarp or towel to prevent scratches.

  • Deflate the tire using a tire pressure gauge. Press on the tire while deflating to remove as much air as possible. Pry the tire from the old rim with the flat end of the tire iron or a pry bar.

  • Install the tire on the Dub floater rim, using the tire iron or a pry bar to get the lip of the tire over the edge of the rim.

  • Inflate the tire to the pressure indicated on its outer wall.

  • Replace the wheel on the vehicle's axle with the floater rim facing out. Replace the lug nuts and tighten with the tire iron or ratchet and socket set.

  • Slowly release the car jack to set the tire on the ground. Tighten all of the lug nuts a final time, then lower the car jack completely and remove from under the vehicle.

  • Test the Dub floater by attempting to spin the outer rim. The rim should return to its original position within a few seconds due to the weight on the inside of the floater rim. If the rim spins freely, you may need to attach included magnetic weights to the inside of the floater rim. Group the weights as tightly as possible.

  • Repeat steps 1 through 9 for each wheel on the vehicle to complete installing the Dub floater rims.
