Chips or scratches to a vehicle's finish are inevitable, but these imperfections can diminish a car's resale value. It is easy for all GMC vehicle owners to touch up their paint; they just need to know the correct paint code.
A paint code is a unique alphanumeric code assigned to each paint color that a manufacturer uses for its vehicles. According to Automotive Touchup, most of GMC's paint codes for cars and trucks begin with BC/CC U, which stands for basecoat/clearcoat upper color, followed by a four digits. Codes for GMC's two-tone models use "U" to designate the upper body color and "L" to indicate the lower.
Express Paint and Automotive Touchup both indicate that the most common location for GMC paint codes is in the glove box, including in the Acadia, Denali, Envoy, Jimmy, Sierra, Suburban and Yukon. If the code is not on a sticker in the glove box, check the visor on the passenger side or the door jamb on the driver's side. If you still cannot find it, refer to your owner's manual.
If you cannot locate the sticker with the paint code and you no longer have your owner's manual, Express Paint recommends that you call your GMC dealer and provide your vehicle identification number; the dealer should be able to look up the code for you. You can also input the year, make and model of your vehicle into an online database, which is often available on automotive paint sellers' websites, to find out the correct code.
