How to Change the Battery in a 2007 Tahoe

The Chevy Tahoe is a full-size SUV, manufactured by the Chevrolet division of General Motors, since the 1992 model year. As of November, 2010, it remains in production. It is available in a number of variations, including a hybrid version, introduced in the 2008 model year. Regardless of the exact version you own, your 2007 Tahoe needs a reliable battery for proper operation.

Things You'll Need

  • Replacement battery
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Wire brush
  • Put the vehicle in "Park." Turn off the radio and lights. Turn off the engine, and remove the keys.

  • Release the hood, using the hood release lever. It is located on the driver's side of the vehicle, to the left of, and below, the steering wheel.

  • Locate the battery on the passenger side of the vehicle, near the rear of the engine compartment.

  • Disconnect the strap that holds the battery in place.

  • Loosen, and remove, the negative cable, using the adjustable wrench. The negative cable is black and marked with a "-" symbol.

  • Loosen, and remove, the positive cable, using the adjustable wrench. The positive cable is and marked with a "+" symbol.

  • Lift the defective battery from the Tahoe, and discard, in accordance with your local laws.

  • Clear any dirt and debris from the battery tray. Use the wire brush to clean the battery cable ends.

  • Put the new battery in the battery tray; it must face the correct direction.

  • Reconnect the strap that holds the battery in place.

  • Reconnect the positive cable to the positive battery terminal.

  • Reconnect the negative cable to the negative battery terminal.

  • Close the Tahoe hood, and test the new battery.
