How to Remove a Dodge Truck Oil Fill Cap

Before you can add oil or change the oil in your Dodge truck, you need to locate and remove the oil fill cap on the engine. The oil fill cap sits on top of the engine valve cover near the front and on the driver's side of the engine compartment. It is clearly marked, indicating "Engine oil only" and the grade of oil recommended by the manufacture for the engine in your truck.

Things You'll Need

  • Clean rag
  • Open the hood of your truck and locate the oil fill cap on the driver's side valve cover. Wipe the area around the cap with a clean rag, removing any dirt or oil from the cap and valve cover.

  • Grasp the cover with your hand and rotate it counterclockwise until the cap is free from the valve cover. It may be very tight, but it will come off by hand. Do not use any tools on the cap or you may damage it.

  • Lift the oil fill cap straight out of the hole in the cover. Set the cap aside somewhere safe.
