How to Change a Yamaha V-Star Headlight

Replacing the headlight on the Yamaha V-Star cruiser is simple and straightforward. Unlike many motorcycles, the fairing needn't be removed to access the headlight assembly and no special tools are needed for the job. Buy the replacement halogen headlight bulb by specifying the year and model of your Yamaha V-Star cruiser to a local auto retailer or online vender. The procedure should take about half an hour.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Replacement halogen headlight bulb
  • Latex gloves
  • Turn off your Yamaha V-Star and wait a few minutes for the headlight to cool down if it was on.

  • Remove the front lens unit of the headlight assembly by removing the two screws on either side of it with a screwdriver.

  • Disconnect the wiring harness from the rear of the headlight lens.

  • Remove the headlight bulb cover by twisting it counterclockwise.

  • Unhook the headlight bulb holder by pressing it away from the headlight bulb.

  • Pull the headlight bulb out of the headlight lens unit.

  • Put on latex gloves so that your skin does not touch the glass of the replacement headlight. Oils from your fingers can shorten the lifespan of the bulb. Insert the replacement bulb and reassemble the headlight unit by following the previous steps in reverse.
