How to Remove a Chevy Avalanche Battery

Removing the battery from your Chevrolet Avalanche is something you can do yourself. As long as you can lift up to 60 lbs. and have a socket wrench available, you can remove the battery in under five minutes. If you have never ever attempted to take out your Avalanche's battery before, don't be concerned; the task is a straightforward one.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Open the hood of your vehicle by pulling the hood release lever. The hood release lever is located in between the driver's-side door and the seat itself.

  • Use your socket wrench to loosen the wingnuts on the battery terminal connectors, then remove the cables from the battery. Loosen and remove the negative (black) terminal connector first, then the positive (red). Set both of the cables out of the way of the battery.

  • Place both hands on the battery, lift it from its compartment, then set it on the ground carefully. You can now install a new battery, if you wish.
