How To Install a Headlight on an Oldsmobile Alero?

Every vehicle requires its share of repairs over time. Some repairs are easier than others and some are even simple enough for the car owner to do himself. On many vehicles, an easy repair is to replace a headlight. The Oldsmobile Alero was only produced between the years 1999 and 2004, so the parts are pretty much the same for every version. This makes it convenient for an Alero owner to save some money and replace the headlight in his own garage or driveway.

Things You'll Need

  • #9006 light bulb
  • Engage your parking brake and turn off your Alero's engine. Turn the headlight switch to "OFF."

  • Pop the hood and locate the mounting brackets at the rear of the headlight assembly. Lift and pull forward the headlight assembly to disengage the mounting brackets.

  • Remove the rubber cap covering the bulb socket and set it aside for use later. Turn the bulb socket retainer counterclockwise to pull the socket out before unclipping the bulb socket from the wiring harness.

  • Remove the old bulb from the socket by turning it counterclockwise. Insert the new bulb by turning it clockwise until it is secure.

  • Clip the bulb socket back onto the wiring harness and turn the bulb socket retainer clockwise to secure back into place. Place the rubber cap that was set aside back over the bulb socket.

  • Slide the assembly back into place and close the hood. Test the new headlight to ensure it is working properly.
