How to Apply Rain-X

Applying Rain-X to a windshield helps maintain visibility in wet conditions. Rain can form a liquid sheet on an untreated windshield, making it difficult to see. You have to use your windshield wipers more frequently, and the rain builds up between swipes of the wipers, distorting your vision. On a windshield treated with Rain-X, however, rain forms into beads that roll away, making it easier to see. Rain-X is easy to apply and is worth the little time it takes.

Things You'll Need

  • Glass cleaner
  • Paper towels
  • Rain-X
  • Clean, dry cloths
  • Spray the windshield with the glass cleaner and wipe with the paper towels. Repeat until the paper towels are clean after you've wiped off the windshield.

  • Pour Rain-X on a clean, dry cloth. Apply it to the windshield, moving the cloth in small circles until the windshield has been covered. Apply more Rain-X to the cloth as needed.

  • Let the Rain-X dry on the windshield until it takes on a slightly hazy finish.

  • Buff away the haze with another clean dry cloth until the windshield looks clear.
