How Do I Remove the 3rd Brake Light on a Chevy S-10?

A vehicle's third-brake light provides additional visibility to drivers behind you. It lets them know if you are slowing down or stopping even if they can't see your normal brake lights. The Chevrolet S-10 has two third brake light bulbs, rather than one, although both bulbs are stored inside the same lens. If you need to replace the third brake light bulbs, you'll first need to remove the old ones. The removal procedure is the same for all last-generation S-10 models (produced from 1994 to 2003).

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Approach the rear of the S-10, lower the tailgate, and step inside the truck's bed. Walk to the back panel of the cabin.

  • Find the third brake light directly above the rear glass. Remove the two screws with your Phillips-head screwdriver.

  • Grasp either edge of the third-brake light lens. Pull the lens toward you to remove it.

  • Remove each bulb by gently pulling them out of the socket. Reverse the process if you are installing new bulbs.
