How to Change the Brake Light on a 2005 Toyota Camry

Working brake lights are an essential safety feature as well as a legal requirement. Changing the brake lights on your 2005 Toyota Camry can be done in a few minutes without any tools. By performing this simple repair yourself, you can save the time and money you would waste at an auto repair shop.

Things You'll Need

  • New brake light bulb
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Open the trunk of your Toyota Camry.

  • Open the plastic access panel covering the tail light assembly from the side closest to the center of the trunk. The outside edge has a hinge. If you cannot remove it with your hands, gently pry it open with a screwdriver.

  • Rotate the socket for the burnt-out bulb counterclockwise, as if you are facing the back of the bulb. Then pull the socket out of the light assembly.

  • Push the lock release button in the socket and remove the old bulb. It pulls straight out.

  • Install the new bulb until it clicks into place.

  • Reinstall the light socket by reversing step 3.

  • Snap the access panel back into place.
