The PCV, or positive crankcase ventilation valve, is a vital engine component. Although small, it performs the necessary task of removing combustion gases from the crankcase and sending them through the intake manifold to be burned again. This reduces the pressure within the engine's crankcase, as well as helping to reduce emissions by recirculating the combustion gases back into the engine and burning them a second time. Although it is one of the most overlooked engine components, the PCV should be changed at least every 50,000 miles.
Locate the PCV valve. It is in the middle of the valve cover in the rear. There is a small vacuum line that connects it to the intake manifold.
Use the pliers to squeeze the clamp and slide it back on the vacuum line.
Slide the vacuum line off the PCV valve.
Grab the PCV valve and twist it while pulling it out.
Install the new PCV valve by pushing it into the rubber grommet.
Slide the vacuum line onto the PCV valve.
Squeeze the clamp with the pliers and slide it back into place on the PCV valve.
