How to Install the Cabin Air Filter on a 1998 Lincoln Navigator

Like the filter in your home's furnace, the cabin air filter in your 1998 Lincoln Navigator removes pollutants entering your car's ventilation system before the particles can reach the vehicle's passenger compartment. The cabin air filter should be replaced at least every 12,000 to 15,000 miles, if you drive your Lincoln Navigator frequently and through dusty environments, or once a year.

Things You'll Need

  • Flashlight
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Soft cloth or rag
  • Shine a flashlight underneath the front passenger side dashboard to locate the cabin air filter's bracket. The bracket contains five screws, and can be found directly under the glove box.

  • Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the five screws holding the bracket in place. Place the screws and bracket on the floorboard of your Lincoln Navigator.

  • Slide the old cabin air filter straight down out of the dashboard using the handle on the end of the filter.

  • Wipe the dashboard, the bracket and the area where the old cabin filter was with a soft cloth or rag to remove any dust and dirt from the area.

  • Slide the new cabin filter gently into the tracks. (The filter will only go in one way.)

  • Replace the bracket, and screw in the five screws to secure the bracket.
