How to Replace Honda Civic EX 1994 Spark Plugs

The 1994 Honda Civic EX comes either as a 4-door sedan or a 2-door coupe. Both the coupe and the sedan come with 1.6-liter engines that put out 125hp stock. The spark plugs on these models are located on the top front of the engine. The engine has four spark plugs, and each of the spark plugs has a wire with a rubber cover. The spark plugs torque specifications are the same on both engines. Replacement of the spark plugs is one of the most basic jobs to be performed on this vehicle and should take the average DIY mechanic 10 minutes to complete.

Things You'll Need

  • Ratchet
  • Spark plug socket
  • Spark plug gaping tool
  • Torque wrench
  • Open the hood of the 1994 Honda Civic EX and locate the spark plugs on the front of the engine. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.

  • Remove the spark plug wires from the spark plugs by pulling them off, one at a time. Remove the spark plugs using the ratchet and spark plug socket.

  • Using the gaping tool, gap the spark plugs to .043 inches. Insert all of the new spark plugs into the engine and torque all four of them to 22 foot-pounds, using the torque wrench.

  • Connect the wires to the new spark plugs, reconnect the negative battery cable and close the hood.
