How to Read Codes for a 1995 Honda Civic

When the check engine light on your 1995 Honda Civic comes on, it is important to get your car checked out right away. If you ignore this warning, you could end up causing more damage to your engine. However, you can go into the shop armed with the codes instead of paying the auto repair shop to retrieve them for you. Knowing the codes can save you money and time.

Things You'll Need

  • Jumper wire
  • Locate the diagnostic connector under the glove box in the kick panel. There are two connectors. One has three pins, and one has two. You will be using the one with two pins.

  • Connect the two pins in the connector with a jumper wire. You can purchase a jumper wire from any electronics store.

  • Turn the ignition key and watch the check engine light come on.

  • Count the check engine light flashes. For example, if the code is 23, the light will make two long flashes and three short flashes. If there are additional codes, they will follow after a long pause.
