How to Take the Battery Out of a 1999 Chevy Venture

A dead battery in your 1999 Chevrolet Venture can leave you stranded at the worst possible time. You should replace the battery as soon as you notice that it is not holding a charge. Your 1999 Venture uses a 12-volt battery that you can purchase at most auto parts retail stores and Chevrolet dealerships. With a few common tools, you can remove the old battery to make room for the replacement or to bring to the store for comparison purposes.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket and ratchet set
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Wrench set
  • Open the hood of your Chevrolet Venture. Rest the hood on the support rod to keep it out of the way while you change the battery.

  • Remove the bolts securing the cross bar over the battery area. On the Chevrolet Venture, there are two bolts on the front of the bar and one bolt securing the rear of the bar. Use a socket and ratchet to remove the bolts. Lift the cross bar out of place and set it aside.

  • Remove the screw securing the fuse box with a screwdriver. Set the screw aside and rotate the fuse box up out of the way.

  • Remove the negative battery cable from the battery terminal using a wrench. Remove the positive battery cable using a wrench.

  • Remove the bolt securing the battery brace at the base of the rear of the battery. Remove the plastic brace from the base of the battery. Pull the battery straight out of the battery tray.
