How to Replace the Dome Light in a 1998 Toyota Camry

The dome light in your 1998 Toyota Camry illuminates the cabin of your car when you open the doors, or if you need some extra light. If the bulb burns out in your dome light, it can really leave you in the dark. The dome light in your Camry requires a DE3175 bulb. You can buy the replacement bulbs from an auto parts retailer or Toyota dealership. If the thought of accessing the internal components of your dome light is daunting, do not let it worry you. You can change the bulb in minutes with common hand tools.

Things You'll Need

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Small wooden or plastic flat tool
  • Use a flathead screwdriver to pry open the housing on the dome light. There is a small indentation on the passenger side of the dome light on your Camry. Insert the screwdriver in that indentation and pry off the cover.

  • Use a plastic or wooden tool to pry the cylindrical bulb from the dome light socket. The light may pop out quickly, so be prepared.

  • Insert the new bulb by pressing it straight into the socket until it locks into place. Reposition the plastic dome light cover and press it into position until it clicks.

  • Test the dome light to verify that it illuminates properly.
