How to Check the Transmission Fluid in a Cadillac Escalade

The transmission fluid in your Cadillac Escalade is responsible for keeping the gears and components within the transmission lubricated and moving smoothly. Check your Escalade's transmission fluid every time you perform regular maintenance or check the motor oil.

Things You'll Need

  • Clean rag
  • Drive the Escalade for about 15 minutes to allow the vehicle to warm up. It's crucial to check and measure the transmission fluid while the fluid is at operating temperature.

  • Open the hood of the Escalade and find the ATF (automatic transmission fluid) container on the driver side of the Escalade. You can easily distinguish the ATF from the motor oil container and dipstick because it's labeled ATF and colored red.

  • Remove the dipstick by pulling it out of the container. Wipe it clean with a rag and replace. Remove the dipstick again and read the level of transmission fluid indicated on the dipstick. The fluid line will fall between the "full" and "add" lines. If the fluid measures below the "add" line, add fluid immediately to avoid damage to your transmission.
