Modern vehicles are a bundle of complicated electronics, lots of wiring and more computing power than the average computer from 1990. That means that if something goes out in your vehicle, you're going to have to find a sensor or part to replace it, not just tinker under the hood and figure it out yourself. In the case of the Honda Accord, repairing the speedometer really means replacing the speedometer, because there is no fix to be had. It's cheaper just to replace the entire part then to dive into the circuit board and get it done. In this case, the vehicle is a 1997 Honda Accord.
Unscrew the dash bezel from the dashboard using the Phillips screwdriver. There's one near the a/c controls and another pair above the gauge cluster.
Pull out the dash bezel with your hands. There are a few clips on the sides that need to be pulled out with mild pressure.
Remove the wiring cluster from the dashboard using the 1/4-inch ratchet, sockets and extension and unplug the harness from the gauge cluster using your hands.
Plug the stock harness into the replacement cluster using your hands.
Bolt the new cluster into the dash using the 1/4-inch ratchet, sockets and extension.
Install the dash bezel using your hands and the Phillips screwdriver.
Turn on the car and drive it around the block to make sure that the gauge sweeps correctly.
