Carburetors in KLR motorcycles have the distinct tendency of becoming easily clogged with sludge and debris. As a result, it is important to be able to easily clean the carburetor and allow fuel from the tank to flow freely to the motor.
Remove the carburetor from the motorcycle and place it on the ground on a clean rag. (For complete directions on removing the carburetor from your KLR, consult the owner's manual.)
Remove the cap of the carburetor by removing the screws in the top. Make sure to gently pull the cap away from the seal to prevent damaging the seal.
Turn the carburetor over and thump it a few times to knock any large debris loose.
Spray the entire carburetor out with carburetor cleaner. This cleaner will eat up much of the sludge inside and will help remove any metallic particles.
Wipe out the carburetor thoroughly with a rag.
Place a blower tip on the end of your air compressor. Use this to blow out all the openings and valves on the carburetor.
Place the top back on the carburetor. Make sure the seal is lined up as perfectly as possible. Retighten all of the screws.
