Though out of production since 2001, if you own an Acura Integra and you notice it's taking a long time for the engine to heat up, you may need to change the thermostat. Luckily on an Integra this job can be done in a relatively short period of time.
Use a jack and jack stands or wheel ramps to lift the front of your Integra. On the passenger side of the exhaust manifold is an opening. Locate a plastic drain plug through that opening.
Loosen the plug to drain the coolant from the radiator and hoses into an appropriate container. If the coolant is relatively new and clean, reuse it later.
Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the engine block if your Acura Integra was produced between 1986 and 1994. For models built between 1994 and 2001, follow the lower radiator hose.
Locate the thermostat housing at the point where the radiator hose meets the engine block. Remove the clamp from that end of the hose and pull the hose off.
Unbolt the two 10mm bolts on either side of the thermostat housing and remove the housing cover. In an Acura Integra, it may be necessary to remove the top of the intake manifold to better access these bolts.
Take out the old thermostat. Take note of the position of the thermostat. Seat the new thermostat and gasket in the housing in the exact same position as the old one. Scrape any rust or residue from the inside of the housing cover and replace. Tighten the bolts on the thermostat housing cover.
Reattach radiator hose and add the reserved or new coolant. Run the engine, allow it to warm up, and then check for leaks.
