Where Is a Car Thermostat Located on a 2.7 L Engine?

If you're finding your car's coolant not acting as it should be, you may have an issue with your thermostat. The car's engine running hot according to the temperature gauge inside your car, or your heater not working, are signs you may need to replace your thermostat.

Function

  • The thermostat is an important part of the coolant system in which it moderates the temperature. If the engine gets too hot, it allows more coolant flow. If the temperature is fine, it restricts coolant flow.

Location

  • The radiator is another major part of the coolant system, use this as a guideline to find your thermostat. Follow the lower radiator hose to the thermostat housing. You'll need to loosen the clamp and remove the bolts and your thermostat will be sitting inside.

Considerations

  • It's easier to reach the housing from underneath the vehicle. If removed it, will cause spillage of antifreeze,is a toxic substance. Use a drain pan to dispose of antifreeze properly.
