How to Install a Lower Oil Cooler Line in a Cadillac

The lower oil cooler line in Cadillac vehicles runs between the transmission and the radiator underneath the engine. The cooler line is a pair of vinyl hoses that transport transmission oil to the radiator for cooling then back to the transmission to lubricate the gears. Installing new transmission oil cooler lines is necessary when there is a leak or when doing an engine re-build. These lines ensure that proper fluid levels and temperatures are maintained in the engine.

Things You'll Need

  • Flashlight
  • Flare nut wrench
  • Nuts (2)
  • Use a flashlight to locate the transmission and radiator beneath the engine of your Cadillac. The transmission is a small black box surrounded by bolts on the driver's side of the engine. The number of bolts varies by the year and make of Cadillac. The radiator is the large block in the middle that takes up most of the room in the engine compartment.

  • Shine the light on the passenger's side of the transmission and the bottom of the radiator to locate the matching, round ports approximately 1/2-inch in diameter.

  • Place one nut on each of the ports.

  • Run the new oil cooler line from the transmission to the radiator, inserting the end of the hose into the port.

  • Tighten the nuts by turning them clockwise with a flare nut wrench.
