How to Reset My BMW X5

Your BMW X5 is equipped with an onboard monitoring system that tells you when the vehicle is due for engine service and oil changes. If you perform your own maintenance and do not bring it to the BMW dealer for service, you will need to reset these indicator lights by yourself. Use a BMW fault code and reset tool to turn off the indicator lights and bring your instrument panel back to a normal state.

Things You'll Need

  • Fault code
  • Reset tool
  • Locate the diagnostic port located under your X5's steering wheel.

  • Plug the reset tool into the diagnostic port and allow it to turn on automatically.

  • Press the "Reset" button on the diagnostic tool to make the tool flash your BMW's diagnostic system and clear the service indicator lights.
