PT Cruiser AC Problems

Cooling system issues were the top complaint about 2006 Chrysler PT Cruisers on the Car Complaints website. If your PT Cruiser's AC system is blowing out warm air (or no air at all), you've probably got a problem.

Parts

  • The air conditioning unit of a PT Cruiser is made up of three parts: the drive belt, air compressor and HVAC control unit. A malfunction in any of these components can contribute to a problem with your PT Cruiser's AC unit.

Compressor Failure

  • Owners of 2006 PT Cruisers have complained about compressor failures. Compressor failure was the second most common AC problem reported in 2006 PT Cruiser models.

Considerations

  • Owners of 2007 PT Cruisers have reported that their vehicles are overheating. Broken fans and thermostats in the PT Cruiser need to be replaced for the cooling systems to function properly.

Identification

  • Look under the hood to diagnose an AC problem caused by a broken belt. Check the AC pump belt and drive belts for cracks or evidence of deterioration. A broken belt will cause the air compressor to stop functioning, which prevents cool air from blowing inside the car. Broken belts can occur at any at time during the life of a PT Cruiser.
