How to Change the Headlight in a 2001 Mercedes E320

Changing the headlight in a 2001 Mercedes E320 requires the same basic procedure as replacing a bulb in most passenger vehicles. The process is relatively simple and can be completed in just a few minutes. You will need a flat head screwdriver and an H7 replacement headlight bulb. You should also make sure to wear cloth gloves while handling the bulb, as oils from your hands can shorten the lifespan of a new headlight bulb.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Cloth gloves
  • H7 Replacement bulb
  • Pop open the hood of your Mercedes Benz. The headlight compartment is accessible through the engine compartment.

  • Pop off the metal clip holding the headlight bulb in place in the headlight compartment. Use a screwdriver for this process. The clip is located on the wiring harness plug on the back of the lamp.

  • Move the headlight bulb out from the compartment. You should be able to easily maneuver the bulb out through the back of the compartment. It will still be attached to the bulb plug with two metal clips.

  • Unclip the old bulb and discard.

  • Insert the new bulb and then reinsert the bulb plug back into the headlight compartment. Snap the metal clip that holds the compartment back into place.
