Maintenance Information for a Chevy

To keep a vehicle in good running order follow the manufacturer’s required maintenance schedule. You can perform most scheduled maintenance work to avoid paying high costs through the dealership.

Maintenance I

  • Maintenance I involves changing the engine oil, the oil filter and inspecting the engine air filter. In addition, you should inspect and top off the engine coolant, windshield wiper fluid and other fluids. Check your tires for proper inflation and rotate them.

Maintenance II

  • The Maintenance II schedule includes all the services required in Maintenance I. In addition, the items to be serviced under Maintenance II are an inspection of the suspension, steering components, wiper blades, engine cooling system, throttle system, restraint systems, and the lubrication of all body components.

Rotation

  • Chevrolet recommends rotating between Maintenance I and Maintenance II service packages. For example, the first scheduled maintenance will include all of the listed items in Maintenance I. The following scheduled maintenance will include both Maintenance I and II.

Mileage

  • The frequency at which these services are done varies by the year, make and model of the car. Newer vehicles have a maintenance light or oil light that comes on when it is time for vehicle service. Older vehicles can require oil changes at 3,000 miles.

Extra Services

  • At intervals of approximately 12,000 or 15,000 miles, other services, such as replacing the air filter and fuel filter, are required. Also, a transmission flush, coolant flush and fuel injector cleaning is required.
