How Do I Reprogram a Chevy Alarm Remote?

The Chevy keyless entry system can be a very vital part of your car, especially in situations when a kill switch is hooked up to the keyless entry car alarm. Reprogramming a remote is very simple and can be done in less than five minutes if the proper steps are followed.

Enter Programming Mode

  • Programming mode is where you will be able to program your remotes into the car. To begin the process, make sure all of the doors (including the hood and trunk) are shut and then put the key into the ignition but do not turn it. Locate the door lock/unlock feature on your driver's side door and hold it in the unlock position. Without letting go of the switch, turn the ignition on and off three times with it ending up in the off position once again. Now let go of the switch on the door, and you will hear the car doors lock and unlock signifying that you have entered programming mode. Pull the key out of the ignition at this time.

Programming the Remote

  • For any one Chevy vehicle, you can program up to four keyless remotes to the vehicle at a time. Now that you are in programming mode, hold down the lock and unlock button on the keyless remote until you hear the doors lock and unlock to let you know that they have been programmed. Repeat this process on all of the other remotes that you have, whether they were already programmed to the car or not, as programming mode will erase any previous memory of remotes connected to the vehicle.

Once you have completed this process on all of your remotes, put the key back into the ignition and turn it until it is in Acc mode, which will be one key turn in front of the Off position. This will exit the programming mode and allow you to then shut the car off and test the remotes to make sure that they are working properly.
