How to Change Oil on 2009 Nissan Quest

No matter what your quest, your 2009 Nissan Quest can fit the bill. Running the kids around, getting groceries or taking a trip to Yosemite National Park, this van has plenty of space to do it. The 3.5-liter V-6 engine provides plenty of power to get you where you want to go. Changing the oil in this V-6 is something you can do right in your driveway.

Things You'll Need

  • Floor jack
  • Jack stands
  • 3/8-drive-metric socket set
  • 3/8-drive-ratchet
  • 3/8-drive-3 inch extension
  • 3.15-inch cup oil filter wrench
  • 5 quarts 5-W30 motor oil
  • Drain pan
  • Funnel
  • Torque wrench
  • Wheel chocks
  • Place the wheel chocks behind the rear tires, open the hood and remove the oil fill cap.

  • Place the floor jack under the jacking point just behind one front wheel and lift it. Locate the notch for the jack under the van where the body and floor come together, and place the jack stand there. Lower the van onto the jack stand and repeat on the other side.

  • Put the drain pan under the engine at the drain plug, then using a 14 mm socket remove the drain plug and allow the oil to drain. Locate the oil filter on the passenger side of the engine and place the oil filter wrench on it, then using the ratchet, turn it counterclockwise.

  • Put some oil on the new oil filter seal, then thread it by hand until the seal touches, then 3/4 turn more. Install the oil drain plug and torque it to 22 to 29 foot-pounds.

  • Lower the van to the ground. Add 4.2 quarts of oil. Start the engine and after 30 seconds, turn the engine off and check for leaks. Check the oil level on the dipstick and add as needed to the full mark.
