The 2000 model year brought in a new, curvier design for the Nissan Maxima. Also changed up for 2000 was the engine, as Nissan tweaked the four-door sports sedan's powerplant to produce 222 horsepower and 217 foot-pounds of torque -- up from 190 horsepower and 205 foot-pounds of torque in 1999. The peppy V-6 in the 2000 Maxima did have expensive tastes though, as regular fuel was not its preferred gasoline.
Nissan recommended using premium fuel with at least a 91 octane rating in the 2000 Nissan Maxima. In the instance that 91 octane is not available, Nissan stated that you could substitute it with a gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87, but you may notice reduced performance.
