What Kind of Gas Goes Into a 2000 Ford Ranger?

In 2000, the Ford Ranger had three engines available: the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder, a 3.0-liter V-6 and a 4.0-liter V-6. All three engines shared the same fuel requirements, but Rangers with the 3.0-liter V-6 had the added benefit of being flex-fuel vehicles, and could run on ethanol or gasoline.

Recommended Fuel

  • Ford designed the 2000 Ranger to operate on unleaded fuel with an octane rating of 87. Using a fuel with a lower octane rating may result in lowered engine performance and knocking or engine damage. On flexible-fuel versions of the 2000 Ranger, Ford recommends either 87 octane, unleaded fuel or E85 Ethanol fuel.
