The Pontiac Grand Prix entered its ninth generation when the automaker redesigned the sedan for the 2004 model year. This redesign also brought about the deletion of the SE trim levels, leaving only the GT and the supercharged GTP models to satisfy customer demand. The GT trim level came with a 3.8-liter V-6 engine that cranked out 200 horsepower.
General Motors designed the Pontiac Grand Prix GT's 3.8-liter V-6 engine to run on unleaded fuel with a minimum rating of 87 octane. Anything less than 87 octane may cause engine knock, which can cause damage to the engine.
