Oiling Upgrade

In the July 2002 issue of Hot Rod we upgraded our 750hp Weiand-blown 426 Hemi with a dual-line oil-pickup set from Milodon. These systems have been used on Top Fuel Hemis since the '70s, but today they're practical and advisable for extreme-powered Mopar street big-blocks. That includes 361s, 383s, 400s, 426 Hemis and Wedges, and 440s, all of which have factory oil pump that's mounted externally rather than in the pan. Milodon also has similar setups for AMC/Jeep V-8s. On any of these engines, the external oil pickup improves oil delivery to the pump, eliminates the internal pickup, and if you use the Milodon oil pump body, also dramatically increases flow and pressure. Here's a look at the how-to details of the system on our Hemi. It might help to check out the "Milodon Oiling Options" sidebar before you start.
