OEMplus A4

Josh Segelson from OEMplus always wanted his Audi A4 2.0T to be quattro. So while it was neatly modded in et 11/11, FWD prevented him from adding the huge power he desired.

Using the OEMplus installation bay at work, the staff have replaced the rear subframe and gas tank to accommodate the AWD transmission, axles and ABS sensors. He also gave it an OEM touch by updating the interior trim to quattro spec and rewiring the gas gauge for the new high-flow pump.

The engine was built to handle up to 35psi from the GT3070R turbo by employing lightened rods and pistons from Integrated Engineering, with ARP head studs securing the ported head. The new set-up uses a Spec stage 3+ clutch and 034Motorsport flywheel.

To stop the A4’s estimated 400hp, it will have Audi R8 brakes up front, covered by a set of candy-painted 19" Rotiform NEU wheels at all four corners.

Josh is planning to wrap the bodywork for the upcoming show season, so check out the OEMplus YouTube channel for time-lapse videos of the progress.

242.4mph Audi S4

Jeff Gerner at Four Ring Performance Engineering has been developing his ’93 Audi S4 to blast down the Bonneville Salt Flats with the aim of breaking the 224mph F Production Supercharged Class record.

At his recent attempt, the Garmin GPS revealed a terminal speed of 250mph on the qualifying run before the engine blew. However, further review of the data showed that the GPS wasn’t anticipating the impact of the parachute being deployed and it calculated the 7mph spike in the wrong direction!

Motivated to grasp the record, the S4’s five-cylinder 20v turbo engine was dismantled in Four Ring’s shop. Jeff worked with ATI Performance Products to design a custom crankshaft balancer hub that has an integral drive for the timing belt. An ATI Super Damper will also be employed to control the crankshaft’s torsional vibrations associated with 1000hp at 10,000rpm.

The next task is to fabricate a dry-sump system that will be built into the 0.5" block girdle. This was something Jeff knew he should have done years ago to add more power and ensure better durability. The sump will also have a windage tray built from directional mesh to further deter oil splashback.

Jeff plans to engineer more parts before the final assembly. So check on his progress next month for more details of his record-breaker build.
