Having a truck in your garage has become almost a necessity in today's world. Whether it's to tow a boat, haul your dirt bike, make grocery runs or even build houses out of, they always come in handy. While some people will use a truck to haul big messy loads of dirt or greasy supplies, some truck beds are used as more like a large trunk in a car. If you plan to haul luggage, tools, or even if you want to keep your groceries dry on the way home from the store, having a dry, lockable, covered bed can come in handy.
Knowing our '15 Toyota Tundra Crewmax will never be used to haul anything messy, we contacted the guys at Undercover Covers and ordered one of their new painted Elite LX covers to match our Sunset Bronze Mica paint. This cover not only fit the truck perfectly, but it matched the truck's paint as if it was painted by Toyota. If you're more into a black textured cover instead of a color-matched one, they have that option available as well. This cover also comes with a carpeted underside and the lock in the handle has a Bolt Lock cylinder, which allows you to use your factory ignition key to lock and unlock the cover. There is also a removable LED light that provides plenty of light for your cargo. This cover is easily removed and reinstalled if you need to haul something larger.
Knowing we wanted to add a little bit of storage in the bed as well, we also picked up a pair of the Undercover Swing Cases that mount at the rear corners of the bed and give you lockable storage yet swing out toward the tailgate to allow for easy access without climbing into the bed to reach them. If you ever need to haul anything larger, both cases simply lift out and give you back the full width of your bed. To keep things from sliding around and give the truck bed more of a "car trunk" feel, we also picked up a BedRug. This kit covers the floor, all three bedsides as well as the inside of the tailgate. This may seem like a big project for some people to do on their own, but, with the help of a buddy and the use of a couple handtools and a tape measure, we were able to install it all in a couple hours in a driveway.
This setup was perfect for our needs as it made our truck bed as secure as the cab while giving us the versatility to haul different size loads if the need came up. Even with this setup, if we did decide to haul something like a load of mulch, simple remove the cover, set out the swing cases and load the mulch. Then once you're done, hose out the Bedrug as if it was a factory bed floor and reinstall the Swing Cases and cover. Follow along as we install these bed enhancements.

1: The first thing to do is the make sure the bed floor and sides are clean and dry. This will ensure that the Velcro tape will attach easily and stay attached to the truck.

2. Unbox the Swing Cases one side at a time. They each come with all the mounting hardware and a pair of keys for the lock and each take about 10-15 minutes to install.

3. First, attach the truck bracket to the striker bracket using the supplied hardware.

4. Remove both of the rear most factory tie-down hooks using a T40 bit. These tie downs will not be used with this installation.

5. Set the mounting bracket against the bed floor and up against the inside of the light well. Secure it using the six self-drilling screws that are provided. Be careful not to over tighten these and strip out the holes.

6: Now simply set the Swing Case onto the hinge pins and swing it into the closed position.

7. We duplicated the process on the other side. At this point, we simply unlatched both cases and lifted them off of the hinge pins and set them aside for the next few steps.

8. The BedRug comes in two pieces, the sides and the floor/tailgate piece, as well as all the mounting parts. Flip the pieces upside down and zip both pieces together.

9. Once the BedRug is together, turn it right side up to ensure proper fitment between the pieces and gather the supplied cleaner and Velcro tape. This is also the time to make sure your bed is clean and dry.

10. Our particular truck came with the bedrail system, so we had to trim the top of the BedRug to go around the rail. The BedRug is marked where it needs to be cut, so carefully trim these three sections out (front and both sides).

11. The kit comes with all the necessary Velcro tabs and strips to attach the BedRug to your truck. Flip the BedRug back over and attach the supplied Velcro to the sides and bottom of the BedRug in the marked locations. There will be two sewn seems on the underside of the bottom piece that will take the larger 36-inch strips. Leave all protective backing on the Velcro at this time.

12. Set the BedRug in the bed and align it into all corners and edges. While in the bed, roll one side of the BedRug toward the other, exposing one of the 36-inch strips. Clean the section of the bed floor where this strip will attach to with the supplied cleaner.

13. Peel back the protective backing from that 36-inch strip and lay the BedRug in place, making sure to press firmly along the entire tape area to ensure good attachment. Roll the opposite side up and repeat this process. This will attach the bottom piece to the bed.

14. Starting with the bulkhead of the bed, peel the protective film from all Velcro pieces and securely attach them to the bed wall. Start at the bottom and work your way to the top, making sure the corners and top edge are square. Then, repeat this process with both side sections but start at the front of the bed and work your way to the rear.

15. There are slots for the factory tie-down hooks, but you will need to cut slits in the BedRug to allow the striker plates for the Swing Cases to come through on both sides.

16. Now that the floor and sidepieces are installed, you can set the Swing Cases back into place. The brackets are behind the BedRug, which provide a cleaner look.

17. Align the tailgate piece of the BedRug with the top of the tailgate cap. Peel the protective film from the Velcro strip and attach it to the cap making sure to keep it level with the top of the tailgate.

18. Now for the installation of the tonneau cover. Remove all of the hardware from the box and familiarize yourself with the parts to take some guesswork out of the install.

19. Remove the end caps from each side bed rail and slide four square nut plates into each side bedrail, two for each front bracket and two for each rear bracket.

20. For each front bracket, the rear most edge should be 16 7/8 inches from the back side of the bulkhead, while each rear bracket's front edge should be 38 3/4 inches from the bulkhead.

21. Once each bracket is in place, using the supplied 1-inch bolts and washers, tighten the brackets to the square nut plates.

22. Reinstall the factory endcaps into the bedrail.

23. Once we removed all of the packing material and cloth wrap that came on the tonneau to protect it during shipping, you can see that the cover comes painted factory color to match our truck.

24. With the help of a friend, set the front of the cover in place, slide the slots in the four bar hinges (attached to the cover) over the posts on the front mounting brackets. Push the cover forward to lock the hinges to the mounting brackets. Lift the cover up from the rear and tighten the twist knobs on both the left and right hinges.

25. Install the hydraulic struts by attaching the large end to the cover and the rod end to the rear mounting bracket. These struts simply snap into place.

26. This is a feature that makes this cover unique. The lock has a Bolt Lock cylinder that utilizes your factory ignition key so there is no need to carry additional keys. Simply insert your key fully, rotate it clockwise 180 degrees, remove the yellow plastic clip on the inside of the lock mechanism, and discard.

27. Not all beds are 100 percent square so there may need to be adjustments. If it doesn't fit square, simple loosen the mounting brackets, make adjustments where needed, and tighten the bolts. You can also adjust the rear latch plates if needed for that perfect fitment.

Now that we have the Swing Cases, BedRug, and Undercover Covers tonneau cover installed, our '15 Crewmax has more security, versatility, and looks better now. Our BedRug will provide all the protection our bed so desperately needed, the Swing Cases can serve as small removable tool boxes and our lockable Undercover Covers tonneau cover with its Bolt Lock system will keep everything looking cool as we roll down the road.
