Auto body repair & detailing: Rubber moulding, rubber moulding, silicone product

Question
Hello !! Ernie,
I have an older truck that i keep parked outside in my driveway.
The Arizona Sun is drying out the rubber moulding around the
windshield, windows, doors etc.
I have tried spreading a thin layer of vaseline on it  "but"  it is
very messy and looks terrible. I have also tried the liquid spray
Armour All product but it does not last and the spray gets on
everything {paint, glass} when i apply it.

Can you suggest another product or method for protecting the
rubber molding / wheather stripping from sesvere sun damage.
Any advice is appreciated !!!!    Thanks !!  Ron"

Answer
Ron,your intentions were on the right track with trying to moisturize the rubber surfaces. But unfortunatly once a molding is dried out it will either need to be replaced and maintained from day one, or you can use an available molding dressing or a silicone product that will last longer than armor all, that is based with water.I prefer Eagle One Wet tire dressing myself. There are products available at most automotive paint supply stores as well as some parts stores .Look in the detail supply area .Remember to apply the product to a clean dry rag and then apply it to your truck with the rag [old t-shirt is good].
