Nissan Repair: 2001 nissan altima, nissan altima, pencil eraser

my dashboard usually goes blank at first. All the dials just go down and the digits disappear from odometer. The set light on the dash blinks.  Shortly after, I lose power from accelerator to engine. I have to pop it in neutral then back to drive. I have a 2001 nissan altima.

I would remove the cluster and clean the harness and connection with a number 2 pencil eraser and blow off the dust.  You can use tuner cleaner from Radio Shack too.  But, do not use too much.  Just enough to clean off the connection and replace the cluster.  If this does not work you are looking at a cluster replacement.  The transformer on the cluster is going out and that would be the problem.  Too expensive to get repaired and a used replacement is the way to go or a rebuilt unit.  The second one is the cheap way to go...  I cannot stand to spend money that I do not have to...
