Auto Parts: Lights on the dash., hyundai accent, fuse box

Question
We got a radio put in a month ago in a 2000 Hyundai Accent, and yesterday it stopped working along with the dash lights that light up the RPM, fuel, and other things in the dash. The other lights that show brake, battery, if you have your lights/brights on work fine, but I cannot see the speed the car is going. We took it to the person that did the battery and they fixed the radio by changing a fuse, but it didn't fix the dash lights. Is there a different fuse I should change, and if so what would it be labled under on the fuse box? I don't want to just check random fuses because I am not familiar with this model car. Thanks for your time!

Answer
You'll need to refer to the owner's manual for which fuse to change, but it will labeled "instrument light."  The radio installer will frequently choose an existing fuse to attach the power lead for the radio.  In this case, he attached it to the wrong side of the fuse and the radio blew both fuses.  Personally, I don't approve of this practice, but it is almost universal in the low-end install business.  Sometimes the fuse box cover will have a key to the fuses on it, but it will definitely be in the owner's manual.  To prevent this from happening again, you might want to replace the fuse in question with the next higher amperage.  Going up one size won't hurt anything, and it should prevent the problem from recurring.  If it does happen again, get that install guy to make it right, there's really no excuse for this sort of thing.
