Car Alarms: Aftermarket car alarm w/ Kill switch, switch harness, key switch

Question
QUESTION: Hi.  I just bought a pan-off restored 1969 VW Beetle Convertible.  It has an
alarm on it that is VERY sensitive!  When it got to me (from having it shipped)
it had a dead battery.  I jumped the battery and drove it home where I
changed out with a new battery.  After that it would fire, but not crank... I
have undoubtably tripped a kill switch somewhere, but I can't find anything.
Any help would be appreciated!

ANSWER: No toggle, external key slot or push button installed
under dash anywhere?

QUESTION: Nothing that I can find.  I have look as best I can without pulling the carpet
away.  I have looked in the glove box, taken the sensitivity setting box off and
unplugged it... The old owner has no clue how the alarm works and no manual!
The shop that installed the alarm has now gone out of business..... I'm sitting
dead in my new car!!

Answer

repair starter wire
Hmmm, ok then. under the hood, locate the red/black
wire (starter) in the ignition switch harness.
An installer would have put in a starter kill relay,
and an alarm brain nearest this location.
Could even be under the dash, close to the key switch.
In any event, locate this wire, cut off any foreign
looking relay or wiring attatched to it and repair.

This should eveliate the starter kill situation.

Let me know what you discover &
see included diagram for reference.
