Car Alarms: 98 Toyota Camry Alarm Malfunction..., crisis response team, toyota camry

I have a well cared for 98 Toyota Camry. Out of the blue, I had just parked, and all of the lights started flashing and everything died. Called AAA, and the so nice guy got it started~ and told me it was an alarm malfuction. It was all fine for 2 days,w/ red light on steady. Just went to start it and all the lights flashed and it totally died again. After a little research, I  tried the valet(?) switch, and doesn't seem to make any difference. What can I do? (Supposed to be on-call 12 hr. shift tonight on volunteer crisis response team, and I've got NO CAR!) I'm one little old(ish!) lady, and don't (can't afford..)to be taken to the cleaners on auto repair! Thankyou thank you.

Hmmmm,
Make sure you do the procedure correctly.
Might have missed a step:

KEY ON JUST BEFORE CRANKING ENGINE.
PRESS IN AND HOLD UNTIL YOU GET A RESPONCE
FROM THE ALARM.
KEY OFF.

This should toggle the alarm in and out of
valet/override.

If toggle type switch.
KEY ON, FLIP SWITCH, KEY OFF,
START THE CAR.
